Next up, Design Corps is proud to be a partner, alongside SFAI and the Center for Urban Pedagogy, on an upcoming collaboration to benefit the Santa Fe Dreamers Project. The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP, New York City) uses the power of design and art to increase meaningful civic engagement, collaborating with designers, educators, advocates, artists, students, and communities to make educational tools that demystify complex policy and planning issues. At a lecture on August 15th hosted by SFAI, the CUP team discussed their partnership with SFAI and Design Corps of Santa Fe—its first expansion outside of New York—and how CUP is working to disseminate its methodologies in communities like Santa Fe.
Here are a few photos of the fantastic introductory lecture at SFAI with Christine Gaspar, Executive Director of the Center for Urban Pedagogy. Christine discussed the mission and work of CUP, which was a winner of the 2016 National Design Awards.
At a workshop on August 16th, CUP shared its methodologies for managing collaboration, facilitating feedback, integrating stakeholder input, art-directing design, and creating clear communication. Participants heard about case studies of CUP’s projects, engaged in discussions of how to apply those techniques in their own work, and had the opportunity to brainstorm and get feedback from CUP staff. The workshop, and bringing the resulting project to fruition as a group over the course of the coming months, is truly a one-time opportunity to work collaboratively with Design Corps Members and Colleagues, SFAI, and the Center for Urban Pedagogy. If you were unable to attend the workshop but would like to participate, please promptly send us an email so we can provide you with updates on how to get involved.
